The Magnetic Detector app provides an innovative solution for identifying metal objects within various wall structures, including wood studs concealed behind drywall, plasterboard, and stucco. Utilizing the device's built-in compass (magnetometer) sensor, this application allows users to accurately locate metal studs, nails, screws, and other metallic fasteners typically found in wooden wall frameworks.

In contrast to conventional handheld stud finders, the Magnetic Detector operates by responding to the magnetic field around metal. As the user moves their device along a wall, the on-screen indicator adjusts accordingly, accompanied by an audible beep for real-time feedback on detection.

This application measures magnetic field strength in microtesla (μT), providing precise readings of nearby metallic objects. The normal ambient magnetic field level is approximately 49 μT (or 490 mG), and any presence of metal will result in an increased reading. Hence, the app serves as a practical tool for identifying metal objects by analyzing variations in magnetic fields generated by these materials.
